Soon after Asher's fifth birthday last September, Harper became a little birthday obsessed. She talked about her birthday every day. And I mean literally every day. On the way home from school, she told me who she was going to invite or some treat she wanted to have. When she didn't finish some food item during the day, she'd tell me, "Save it for my birthday."
So, though we are not huge birthday party people, and I prefer to host a party for the kids every other year, we knew we had to have a party for Harper. We invited a few friends over for a "mermaid and pirate party" in our backyard. The kids had a fun time doing a treasure hunt, which, because a couple of boys lead it, turned into more of a treasure race.
We put Harper's cake in front of her and sang "Happy Birthday," and the look on her face as everyone sang was absolutely precious. She looked around and smiled with a look that said, "I'm a princess." She deftly blew out her four candles and enjoyed the cake.
After the party, Harper had about as much fun organizing her new treasures, using her new pens, putting stickers all over me, dressing up, and playing with her new princess doll. She just reveled in the day. Perfect and beautiful.
